They were sisters from the region of Aquileia. When the Emperor Diocletian was staying in Aquileia, he ordered that the famous spiritual guide, Chrysogonus, be executed. An old priest named Zoilus received a vision in which he was shown where the body of Chrysogonus lay unburied. The old man hurried off, found the body of the martyr, placed it in a coffin and carried it to his home.

On the thirtieth day after that, St. Chrysogonus appeared to him and told him that the three maidens would be martyred in the next nine days, and that he, Zoilus, would himself enter into rest during that time. Anastasia the Seer also received the same tidings in a vision sent by Chrysogonus, who had been her teacher. The elder Zoilus did indeed find his rest after nine days, and the three sisters were brought to trial before the Emperor. The Emperor urged the holy maidens to worship idols, but they all refused, confessing their firm faith in Christ. Irene told the Emperor that it was ridiculous to bow down to things made of wood and stone, made to order at an agreed price by the hands of a mortal man. The furious Emperor flung them into prison. Now, when the Emperor traveled to Macedonia, he took all his slaves and servants with him, including the three sisters. He gave them to Dulcitius, a general, for torture. Inflamed with a dark passion, he desired to defile the maidens, but, when he tried to go into the prison, he lost his mind and fell upon the pots and cauldrons in front of the gate, embracing and kissing them, and was completely blackened with soot.

When the Emperor heard of this happening, he ordered another general to undertake the trial of the sisters. After terrible torture, the judge condemned the first two sisters to death by fire, but kept Irene for a time, hoping to defile her. But, when he sent Irene to the brothel along with some soldiers, an angel of God turned the soldiers back and led her out onto a high hill. The next day the general went out to the hill with his soldiers and, being unable to climb it, ordered that Irene be shot at with arrows. St. Anastasia gathered all three bodies together in one place and gave them burial. They suffered for Christ their King and Lord around the year 304 A.D

الشهيدة أغابي

تحتفل الكنيسة القبطية بعيد استشهاد العذارى القديسات الأخوات أغابي وإيريني وسيونية وشيونيةChionia  في الثامن ن شهر برموده.

هؤلاء العذارى كن تقيات محبات للسيد المسيح، ارتبطن معًا بدالة المحبة القوية مع الرب، وكن يترددن على أحد أديرة الراهبات بتسالونيكي مدينتهن، وكن يمارسن بفرح الحياة التقوية النسكية متمثلات بالراهبات.

إذ أثار دقلديانوس وشريكه مكسميانوس الاضطهاد هربت هؤلاء العذارى إلى الجبل، وقد حملن معهن كتب الدير، اختبأن في مغارة، وصرن يداومن على الحياة النسكية.

كانت سيدة عجوز تفتقدهن مرة كل أسبوع لتقدم لهم احتياجاتهن، وتبيع لهم عمل أيديهن، وتتصدق عنهن بما يفضل. حدث أن رآها أحد الأشرار فحسبها تخفي أشياء ثمينة في الجبل، فاقتفي أثرها من بعيد حتى عرف موضع المغارة، وإذ خرجت دخل ليجد عرائس المسيح يصلين، فربطهن وأحضرهن إلى الوالي.

سألهم الوالي عن إيمانهن فاعترفن أنهن مسيحيات، عابدات يسوع المسيح، فصار يسخر بهن، ويطالبهم أن يأكلن مما ذبح للأوثان فرفضن. عندئذ أمر الوالي بإحضار الكتب التي في حوذة هؤلاء الأخوات، وأحرقها أمام الجميع.

التقى أيضًا الإمبراطور بهن ودار بينه وبينهن حوار جاء فيه:

أغابي: "أيها الإمبراطور المقدس، من شأنك أن تهتم بالأمم، وترعى الدولة، وتعتني بالجيش، لكن ليس لك أن تتحدث ضد اللَّه الحيّ الذي بدونه لا تقدر أن تفعل شيئًا". وهنا يلتفت الوالي إلى شيونية ليقول: "أتجيبي أختك، فإنها غبية؟! "تجيب شيونية: "أختي في كمال الفهم، بحق تجحد التقدمات الشريرة. "عندئذ يلتفت إلى إيريني أصغرهن ويقول لها أن تكون أحكم من أختيها، فتجيبه إن كان ما تقوله الأختان جنونًا فهي تقبله.

أمر دقلديانوس بإلقائهن في السجن، فكانت القديسة أنسطاسية تفتقدهن وتعزيهن. وإذ ذهب دقلديانوس إلى مكدونية استدعاهن، وسلمهن للوالي هناك دولسيتوسDolcitius  الذي رآهن فاشتعل قلبه بهم من أجل جمالهن. وإذ كانت السجون مكتظة حبسهن الوالي في مطبخ، وبالليل جاء ليتأكد من وجودهن فكان المطبخ مظلمًا. سمعهن يرتلن المزامير، وإذ كان مخمورًا انطلق نحو المطبخ وظن أنه أمسك بواحدة فقبلها وإذ به يجد نفسه ممسكًا بقدر أسود متسخ خطأ، فارتبك جدًا.

في الصباح استدعاهن للمحاكمة، وأمر بجلدهن وهن عراه، وإذ كان قد سهر الليل كله يسكر، نعس قبل التنفيذ، وعبثًا حاول أحد الحاضرين أن يوقظه. سمع دقلديانوس بما حدث فأمر بمحاكمة الفتيات بواسطة نبيل يدعى سيسينيوس، الذي ألقى الأختين أغابي وشيونية في النار، بينما هدد أصغرهم وأجملهن إيريني أن يبعث بها إلى بيت الدعارة. أما هي فلم تخف من التهديد وأكدت أنها لن تترك إلهها، وإنه هو الحافظ لها من الفساد... أخيرًا ضُربت بسهم فأسلمت الروح ونالت مع أختيها إكليل الاستشهاد.
